Condoleezza Rice Corrects Liberal Students on the War on Terror

wtcjump1Condoleezza Rice is one of the most intelligent and rational cabinet officials any White House administration has ever had, and it shows in the calm, factual manner with which she dispatches liberal angst.

In this video below, Rice visited a college dorm at Stanford University for a reception and dinner, and a liberal student comes after her with the same tired old allegations of torture and American wrongdoing (in the face of the barbarism of Islamic terrorism).

Rice cuts through the pansy, anti-American regurgitated pap and puts the issue in a clear light.

When the student tries to paint the aberration of the guard misconduct at Abu Ghraib as a matter of American policy, Rice quickly points out just what it was, and that it was dealt with.  Most 8-year-olds would know better than to try and scuttle national defense on the basis of the misdeeds of a few individuals who did not follow the rules themselves–individuals who were punished for their misdeeds, I might add.

She also provides this young man some perspective on the blame-game second-guessing the Left has been so eagerly involved in during the years of the war on terrorism:

I know a lot of people are second-guessing now, but let me tell you what the second-guessing is that would have really hurt me: if the second-guessing had been about three thousand more Americans dying because we didn’t do everything we could to protect them.

Had that been the case, the Left would have had something legitimate to squeal about, though it likely would have been due to their own making, in doing everything they could–as they have done before and after 911–to interfere with our efforts to make America safe.

wtcjump2She also reminds the myopic Left what the consequences of a weak foreign policy and a weak national defense looks like:

If you were there in a position of authority and watched Americans jump out of 80-story buildings because these murderous tyrants went after innocent people, then you were determined to do anything you could that was legal to prevent that from happening again.

These anti-American liberals have consumed such a rich diet of hate and loathing for their own country for so long, they cannot be reasoned into understanding the necessities of war, or the tremendous lengths we went to in order to keep life-saving and attack-preventing interrogation as humane as possible while enabling us to extract useful information.

All that matters is that they feel guilty for the fantastic affluence we experience here in America, and (while not having the guts to give up that affluence for themselves) so they feel the need to engage in self flagellation (with their country as the “self”) to make themselves feel better.

About the evil dungeon the Left thinks Club Gitmo is, Rice asks the student, ”Did you know that Guantanamo was called a ‘model medium security prison’ by representatives of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe?”

The student admitted, “I did not know that.”

Indeed. There are too many things liberals can’t answer because they have not done their homework.  Watching Keith Olbermann and reading the Daily Kos isn’t doing your homework.

They should end their diet of American self flagellation, learn something about the basis of morality, the nature of evil, about their country, and about developing a mature thought process.

Perhaps then they could do something genuine to make their country a still-better place and stop tearing it down at every turn.

    Turn The Other Cheek issue.

    Here's a segment of Matthew 5:
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist one

who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if any one would sue you

and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two

miles. Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. You have heard that it was

said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who

persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on

the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:38:45 RSV)

Many have wondered just how far the famous "turn the other cheek" instruction from Jesus Christ should go in everyday Christian Living. One thing is certain and THAT is that it does NOT mean that we must allow ourselves to be defenseless victims of attacks. Surely, not assaults from every aggressor, thief, or attacker that may come along?

It's very important to realize the context in which Jesus Christ was speaking. The Jewish people were expecting a Savior to overthrow the Roman Empire with military might and fight. Instead of bringing a sword and an army to free their people, Jesus brought Love and a personal freedom to the Jews: they eventually killed Him for this reason. He was introducing all people to Christianity and explaining how it was different from what they currently had.

So, He is on a mountain side near Galilee talking to a group of people (who are expecting physical deliverance) about a paradigm shift of their understanding of what was to come. A new religion instead of a new government. In essence, He was telling those gathered there before Him, as well as us today, that Christians are not to respond to religious persecutors as though they were common criminals. He started this sermon by mentioning
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me"
    He went on to say,
"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

He is telling Christians to turn the other cheek SPECIFICALLY TO RELIGIOUS PROSECUTION.

(But why "turn the other cheek" toward religious persecutors? And how should we respond to those who are unfriendly
toward us because we are Christians? Well, that's a whole other discussion.)

Jesus Christ was not prohibiting self defense by Christians in a manner permitted by civil law. He also said, "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace." (Luke 11:21 RSV). There's No "turn the other cheek" for abusers, burglars, rapists, looters, villians, or even war criminals who want to terrorize and kill Americans.

    Here to inform and educate,
  • Just so we're clear on this, U So Crazy: I won't be posting any more of your comments.

I had hoped you might you might have enough sense to realize that discretion is the better part of valor, and accept the encouragement I provided to educate yourself on something more than Leftist anti-American bilge, but it appears I hoped for more than you were capable of.

The last comment you submitted sounded as if it came from a communist government propagandist, and frankly, I've had all the anti-American BS I can stomach for a while.

I get a nearly intolerable amount of it via the "mainstream" media every day, and I won't give it further audience here.
  • I just wish Dr. Rice and other administration officials had been more assertive in defending the actions of the U.S. a few years ago. We let the leftist crazies set the agenda and dominate the media almost without
objection and now we have hyperinflated children mouthing the words of their anti-America elders and thinking they have answers to questions that they don't even understand. God help us.
  • Yes, that was a critical failing of the Bush administration: they failed to adequately defend sound national policy.

Perhaps they naively believed the truth would speak for itself, and in an ideal world it would have, but in this ignorant culture filled with "mainstream" media propaganda, the rational voice of truth is quickly drowned out by the whining and gnashing of those who despise American values.
  • U So Crazy
"learn something about the basis of morality, the nature of evil"

Wait, who needs to learn about morality and the nature of evil? Those condemning all torture (even torture against our enemies) or the Evangelical Christian President that authorized it? I'm no Christian, and that's probably why I find it hilarious the hypocrisy involved here. Claims that we are a Christian nation founded on Christian ideals yet our actions are very anti-Christian (even Satan-like). What happened to "turn the other cheek" to "thou shalt not lie"?

Why doesn't our "democratic" country allow others to choose their own way of life? Why do we feel we must intrude in their lives? Why do we prop up dictators and try to overthrow democracies? This is the root of all the hatred against America. They don't hate us because we are free. They hate us because of what we have done to their country, to their culture. But instead of trying to understand this, we are afraid to admit and fix our past mistakes.

By the way, this piece is yellow journalism at its finest. Look how biased the author is in how he writes this story.
  • By the way, this post meets none of the criteria of "yellow journalism." I know that the truth hurts when you're a liberal, but that doesn't make the truth "yellow journalism."

Perhaps your lack of grounding in the Christian wordview (upon which our nation, it's government and it's laws were founded) is why you have trouble understanding the nature of evil and morality, and the obligations of government to protect it's citizens.

The admonition to "turn the other cheek" which you cited is an instruction on how human beings are to treat one another in their personal interactions. Governments are instituted among men to protect the innocent from evil and other injustices. Romans chapter 13 shows that government is obligated to protect the innocent and punish the evildoer to prevent continuing acts of evil. The government that fails to do everything in its power that is legal and moral to protect its citizens is a government derelict in its duties.

If you're interested in learning more about the morality of the three instances of waterboarding used to gain life-saving information from murderous terrorists, I suggest you read this http://www.dakotavoice.com/2009/04/marine-i-wit... and this http://www.dakotavoice.com/2009/04/america-writ...

As to the tired crap about lying, it is apparent you have fed well on a diet of Leftist drivel, so I won't dignify the issue with a response.

We also do not "prop up up dictators"--where were you during the invasion of Iraq and the overthrow of the dictator Saddam Hussein who invaded our ally Kuwait, gassed his own people, fired over 200 times at our planes flying the no-fly zone before the invasion, refused to abide by his own 1991 cease fire agreement, and failed to abide by 17 UN resolutions?

We also don't overthrow democracies. If you think Iraq and Afghanistan were democracies, you need still more education.

Part of that education (in addition to all that indicated above) includes the nature of the American way of life, and that of our enemies. They hate us because they are evil and we are comparatively good. They hate us because we believe in freedom and they believe in brutal oppression. They hate us because we stand with the only stable democracy in the Middle East--Israel--and they hate Israel with every fiber of their being. They hate us because we demonstrate with our peace and prosperity that their philosophy is bankrupt--as evidenced by their own primitivism and abject poverty. They hate us because we stand in the way of their goal of Islamic domination of the globe.

Please, do yourself and your country a favor: end your diet of anti-American pap and start educating yourself on facts, history, the basis of objective morality, and the true nature of evil.
