Spare Change for Budget Cuts
Stuart Shepard’s latest Stoplight® commentary puts President Barack Obama’s proposed $100 million cut from the federal budget into perspective.
That might have been more impressive, were it not for the trillions President Obama is spending to bail out the irresponsible and expand government by a frightening magnitude.
Furthermore, $100 sounds like a lot…until you turn on your brain and realize that the total federal budget is $3.5 trillion dollars.
So when you put it in perspective by comparing it to numbers we can more easily grasp, how does it shake out? Consider a family annual income of $40,000 and how much you’d have to cut the annual family budget by in order to equal the proportion of President Obama’s mighty government cutback. Watch the video to find out more.
A similar truth perspective is gained when one considers the defense budget. Liberals love to whine and cry that we’re spending too much on defense (you know, that Constitutionally-authorized budget item that keeps us safe, free and alive?) and need to cut defense spending.
Liberals point to the “massive” defense spending of about $494 billion for the 2009 budget. Sounds like a lot, eh? Until you realize it’s only about 14% of the total federal budget. And that spending on social programs (which are NOT authorized by the Constitution) make up 50% or more of the federal budget.
We’re supposed to believe that 14% of the budget to keep us safe is “too much” but $1.75 trillion that Constitutionally should be handled by private individuals and organizations…well…we just gotta have more!
Perspective: what a wonderful companion to truth, eh?
