Shame on you, Ms. Napolitano

Sec'y of Homeland Security
Janet Napolitano has become an embarrassment for the Obama administration (one among many), making headlines almost daily with some new gaffe. The first appointment by the newly inaugurated President, Ms. Napolitano reaped the promised reward for her speech at the Democratic National Convention in which she viciously and inaccurately attacked the Republican nominee (and fellow Arizonan), John McCain.
During confirmation hearings before the Senate, Napolitano was portrayed as a governor from a border state who was knowledgeable about border security and tough on immigration issues. According to the Chicago Daily Observer “That was… a colossal lie. As governor, Napolitano had routinely stymied the efforts of the Arizona legislature to promote greater border security and to promote immigration enforcement at the state and local level. On a handful of occasions, when the Republican controlled legislature ratcheted up the pressure to a breaking point and threatened to override Napolitano’s vetoes, she grudgingly approved a few items of legislation designed to improve interior enforcement of immigration laws.”
Since her appointment as Secretary for Homeland Security she has proven herself to be ignorant, misinformed and just plain stupid in her many assertions and orders as leader of what is arguably the most important post in the executive cabinet. She knows little about immigration law and less about bureaucratic probity.
Daniel Kelley in the Chicago Daily Observer went on to say,“Since assuming office, Napolitano has frustrated the law enforcement activities of agents and investigators employed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to such a degree that several planned workplace raids targeting employers utilizing undocumented, illegal immigrant workers have been canceled or postponed solely due to Napolitano’s interference. Agents have been obliged to endure internal office audits and inspection visits. Instead of apprehending fugitive aliens, Napolitano has agents inventorying paper clips and accounting for the use of ordinary office supplies. Employee morale within the agency is bad and, apart from her political appointees, Napolitano appears to be widely disliked within the agency.”
Against unconvincing protestations to the contrary, Napolitano is widely believed to be a “partially closeted lesbian” as The Advocate, a well-known gay and lesbian publication has asserted. That she is a rabid feminist is certain. In an interview with Der Spiegel last month, the Secretary for Homeland Security informed us that she is no longer is allowing the use of such epithets as “terrorists.” She prefers to call such things as the attack on the World Trade Center a “man-caused disaster,” deferring to the sentiments of Muslims who feel that “terrorist” is offensive to the religion of peace.
Personally, I find such gender-specific language as “man-caused disaster” offensive. I would have expected more from a person of Ms. Napolitano’s sensibilities. Are we not beyond such narrow, insensitive and misandrist language in the 21st century? If we are to dispose of the word terrorist in official government-speak, can we also shed the sexist modifier and call it “person-caused disaster?” It is inconsequential that all of the “disasters” to date have been perpetrated by testosterone-toxic members of the species, unless we believe that women are physically incapable of such feats.
