Protecting Parental Rights

ph01756jParental rights have been under assault in America for a number of years as liberals increasingly believe all falls under the focus and sway of government–including children.

With renewed vigor for the U.S. to adopt the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (an Orwellian-named measure which would emancipate children from their parents and make them wards of the state) in a Democrat-controlled congress with a Democrat-controlled White House, parental authority is threatened like never before.

But according to CNS News, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) are working to safeguard parental rights.  This week they introduced a constitutional amendment which consists of three sections:

Section 1: “The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.”

Section 2: “Neither the United States nor any State shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.”

Section 3: “No treaty may be adopted nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, interpret, or apply to the rights guaranteed by this article.”

The UNCRC was actually hammered out several years ago, but Republican control of congress and the White House prevented liberal elements in the United States from succeeding in subjugating us to it.

That is no longer the case, especially with the former #1 most liberal senator now occupying the White House.

Children are not mentally, emotionally and intellectually ready to be calling the shots, but the UNCRC would give them government-backed autonomy over the authority and instruction of their parents.  With parental rights already under attack in many areas regarding parental notification of abortions, you can only imagine the danger to which such emancipation would expose our children.

DeMint’s and Hoekstr’s measure faces an uphill battle in a Democrat-controlled congress, but it is important to keep working to defend the family and keep children out of the indoctrinating hands of government.

All one has to do is take a look at the postal service, the education system and almost any government program to realize why giving the government more control over your children should be terrifying.
