Rapid City Tax Day Tea Party is ON!

The Tax Day Tea Party for Rapid City is definitely on!

I attended a planning meeting for the Tea Party today and man, are people fired up!

The 40 or so people I met with today were tired of the outrageous deficit spending from Washington, the deafness in Washington to the people’s concerns, cap-and-trade plans that will raise our electric bills and hurt our neighbors in coal-rich Wyoming, the irresponsible government policies that torpedoed the economy and hurt local businesses such as SCI and Merillat…and more.

I’ve been to a lot of planning meetings of many different kinds, and I think this was the first time I’ve ever seen hands going up to volunteer for this and that in no more than a second or two after the call went out.

Committees were quickly formed to secure a location (a primary and alternate were agreed upon, but I’m waiting until we’ve locked in availability of the location before announcing), get the word out to the community, focus the message and secure speakers, set the Tea Party agenda, procure signs for the event, and establish finances for the expenses necessary to bring it off.  A secretary was also appointed along with a treasurer; a hat was passed and just about everyone in the room contributed generously.

After the general meeting, committees quickly met and strategized to hit the ground running and bring specifics to the next meeting happening Tuesday March 31 at 11:45 am at Oma’s German Restaurant across from KMart on East North Street near the intersection of Cambell Street.

The Rapid City Tax Day Tea Party will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on April 15 in a central part of the city; I’ll share the location as soon as I know it’s locked in.  There will be several speakers and lots of other fun.

It’s on a weekday, but people can stop by over lunch and add their voice to the chorus.  And for you homeschoolers, bring your children by and give them a great lesson in civics and citizenship.

If you’re an American (doesn’t matter if you’re Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Constitution, Conservative, Independent or whatever) who wants to take a stand for your country’s welfare, come join us Tuesday, or come join us April 15.

I’ve heard from people across the state, and one lady who ranches near Kadoka who plans a road trip to join the Rapid City Tea Party on Tax Day.  So even if you don’t live in Rapid City, if you don’t mind a little road trip and would like to add your voice to the voices of other Americans to send a LOUD message to Washington D.C., come join us!

This is a historic occasion where the average American can make a difference in the life of our country!

Two things. I have read somewhere that sending a whole tea bag to DC would not work too well. Security, you know. It would be pitched before it got close. The suggestion was made to only send the tag.
Second. It was my understanding the president could only do what Congress allowed him to do. That is, they have to pass the laws to make this stuff happen. So where is Congress?????? Have they no spine???
I think any action directed toward the president should include your congressional delegation. And none of this, "Well, I didn't vote for that!"
  • Good point about the tea bags, barryjo. I, too, have heard from credible sources that little or none of it is making it to the intended recipient. The tea tag would still send the message.

Also a good point about Congress. They have worked in concert to create this debacle, and there are some Republicans complicit in it, too. There are some people I know who are already vocally holding our congressional delegation accountable, and want to make that message heard at the Tea Party, too.
  • I live in Spearfish and I am driving down with a rabble, we are getting really excited about this.
  • You're welcome to join us, Wolfman87, but I found out over the weekend that a Tea Party is being planned for Spearfish. So if you'd like to join one closer to home...

Bill Nachatilo is organizing one for Spearfish, and a planning meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31st, at 7:30 a.m., at the Perkins Restaurant on I-90.

Regarding out of control federal government spending as evidenced by the stimulus package from hell, the people have forgotten the following. They have forgotten that the Founders made the 10th A. to reserve the lions share of government power to serve the people to the states, not the Oval Office and Congress. In fact, Chief Justice Marshall had established the following case precedent which appropriately limits the power of the feds to lay taxes.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Chief Justice Marshall, GIBBONS V. OGDEN (1824) http://supreme.justia.com/us/22/1/case.html

So Obama's constitutionally unauthorized stimulus package can be thought of as the federal government returning to the states money that it had stolen from the states anyway.

And here's how we got into this mess, in my opinion. The Constitution-ignoring MSM has taken advantage of widespread ignorance of state sovereignty to turn the Oval Office into a throne room that caters to special interest factions. After all, the best response of the constitutionally ignorant people to things like the stimulus package is evidently to rant about how the "king" is partying away their money as if doing so is their idea of the pursuit of happiness.

The bottom line is that citizens need to wise up to the MAJOR problem of ongoing illegal usurping of state powers by the federal government and do the following. Citizens need to work with their state lawmakers to repeal the 16th A., the amendment that gives the feds the power to tax citizens directly. The problem with that amendment is that it has made it too easy for the corrupt feds to lay constitutionally unauthorized taxes.

Again, state lawmakers need to put the feds back on their constitutional leash and decide on a new way to finance the feds which also protects the taxpayer's wallets.
  • Bravo, B. Johnson! BraVO! Well said!
