Apparently a New York Times reporter got uppity, or perhaps was in the throws of a bout with malaria, and asked President Barack Obama last Friday

“Are you a socialist as some people have suggested?”

Now if Obama had been struck by a case of Liar, Liar, he might have answered, “Does a bear sleep in the woods?”

No such malady was present, however, so according to the Washington Times, Obama chose to make a boat ride down a certain river in Egypt:

“You know, let’s take a look at the budget – the answer would be no.”

Apparently revealing a journalist’s secret love for the aforementioned ideology…

“Is there anything wrong with saying, ‘Yes’?” a Times reporter pressed.

Obama again brushed off an opportunity to come clean.

But the president must have realized he had been a little too flippant about his denials, because, according to the Times,

President Obama was so concerned that he had appeared to dismiss a question from New York Times reporters about whether he was a socialist that he called the newspaper from the Oval Office to clarify his policies.

“It was hard for me to believe that you were entirely serious about that socialist question,” he told reporters, who had interviewed the president aboard Air Force One on Friday.

Yes, what was this reporter thinking? Didn’t he realize that despite decades of dumbing-down by the education establishment and the media, there are still far too many Americans who realize socialism is anathema to American values?

This reporter will probably never be allowed back on the plane again.

Is Barack Obama a socialist? It is true that there have been plenty of socialists in Washington D.C. before him, and several presidents with socialist tendencies have resided in the White House.  But as with all things, there is the matter of degrees

Socialism is a milder form of communism or Marxism.  Socialism is built on class envy, wealth redistribution, government control of industry, limited personal freedom, and the state as supreme authority and benefactor.

Does this describe President Obama?

Barack Obama a socialist?  What kind of silly question is that?

  • Interesting that someone had the nerve to ask the question. More interesting that someone thought he/she would get an honest answer. Looking at the evidence, one would think the answer should simply corroborate it.

Of course, under this administration, one has do to more than just look at the evidence.
