Deception Deepens from Pro-Abortion Forces in South Dakota

The lies and deception from the pro-abortion crowd is really getting out of hand…and I hope reasonable South Dakotans are watching it with an open eye.

Ironically, a few weeks ago pro-abortion forces began airing commercials about a woman whose twin pregnancy experienced a fetal anomaly called Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). In the procedure she received, one of the twins died in order to save the other twin.

As crazy as it sounds, pro-abortionists are using a life-saving technique designed to preserve human life in the womb…as a vehicle to maintain access to abortion on demand for any reason whatsoever.

What isn’t being told is that this procedure had to be done out of state due to its highly technical nature. Pro-abortion forces running this ad also aren’t being up front about the fact that under Initiated Measure 11, this procedure would be allowable, since it is designed to preserve human life, not destroy it as elective abortions do.

Section 12 of Initiated Measure 11 states

the physician shall make reasonable medical efforts under the circumstances to preserve both the life of the pregnant woman and the life of her unborn child in a manner consistent with accepted standards of medical practice

Section 13 of Initiated Measure 11 also states

Medical treatment provided to the pregnant woman by a licensed physician that results in the accidental or unintentional injury or death of the unborn child is not a violation of this Act.

How disingenuous to use this rare fetal anomaly (occurring in less than 1 out of 1,000 twin pregnancies) and a procedure intended to preserve human life, in order to preserve a “right” to destroy innocent human life in the womb simply because that life is an inconvenience.

After all, according to statistics from the South Dakota Department of Health, 84.6% of the abortions done in South Dakota in 2006 were done for the stated reason: “The mother did not desire to have the child.” Less than 2% were done for the reasons covered by the exceptions in Initiated Measure 11.

The latest round of deception and hypocrisy from the pro-abortion crowd comes in the form of an ad which claims doctors couldn’t even treat medical conditions like diabetes, cancer or hypertension. This is, again, a complete pack of lies.

Most treatment for such health issues would not even be a threat to the unborn child. And even if there were a conflict between the life of the child and the life of the mother, Section 12 and Section 13 (see above) cover this.

Additionally, Section 3 of Initiated Measure 11 covers the preservation of the life of the mother:

No person may be prosecuted under section 2 of this Act if a licensed physician has made a judgment that an abortion is necessary to avert the death of the pregnant woman, unless in reaching that judgment the physician knowingly disregards accepted standards of medical practice.

Further, Section 4 of Initiated Measure 11 also covers health risks to the mother:

No person may be prosecuted under section 2 of this Act if a licensed physician has made a judgment that an abortion is necessary because there is a serious risk of a substantial and irreversible impairment of the functioning of a major bodily organ or system of the pregnant woman should the pregnancy be continued and which risk could be prevented through an abortion, unless in reaching that judgment the physician knowingly disregards accepted standards of medical practice.

Pro-abortionists are counting on the hope that South Dakotans won’t read the law for themselves. Pro-abortionists are counting on the hope that South Dakotans can be misled into preserving their “right” to kill unborn children for the sake of convenience.

As a South Dakota doctor commenting at Voices Carry put it:

If I knew a physician in SD that would not aggressively treat these medical illnesses, I would want them to stop practicing medicine. IM11 does absolutely nothing to interfere with these illnesses. If you have questions please read the law. It is actually very easy to read. Unhealthy families seems to think that South Dakotans are too stupid to understand the law as implied by their own commercials. Just read it.

I agree. Just read it.

Then tell pro-abortionists with your vote that you’re tired of killing unborn children just because they get in the way, and that you’re tired of their deception and lies.

Or even, as Voices Carry suggests, a call to the local TV station or the South Dakota Election Board.
