THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD

The "People's" Presidential Candidate That Won't Be

By Carrie K. Hutchens

I'm not sure if it is the older I get or the crazier the world and system becomes that makes me so dissatisfied with how things all work in this day and age but it doesn't really matter which. What matters is that I am and I am with cause.

I watch (and read) in awe how some politicians attempt to work things to their liking as though they feel the people are secondary at best and nothingness more often. For example, when Senator Lieberman decided he was going for the independent run after losing in the primary, it was the politicians that were most intent on him not doing so. Obviously "the people" and the politicians had entirely different opinions, since Lieberman won.

What does this say about the politicians that deserted Senator Lieberman or ill-advised him? What does this say about the politicians trying to keep their safety-net intact and to heck with what the people want?

What does this say about negative campaigning?

My personal opinion is that "false campaigns" should be held as accountable as "false advertisements". If someone is caught having lied to gain a position -- he or she shouldn't be allowed to continue in the position wrongfully gained. We shouldn't consider it "just politics" and an "oh well" they slipped that one by on us. That is no justifiable excuse. It is, however, a dangerous position to hold onto and getting even more dangerous by the day.

I think the politicians ought to be held accountable to the people always -- not just accountable when they are getting in the way of other politicians or political powers. But then... who am I to set up the game board to be played by? No one asked me. Just like no one asked me who I might think would make a good president. Did anyone ask you either?

The politicians just huddle and meet and talk and decide who they think ought to go up the line. Of course, they are looking at people that they think will be sharing their agenda, or at least be swayed to give some benefits towards it. What about the people's idea of who might be a good candidate? You know... someone that has proven to be a representative of people? Oh what concept that might be after so many years of being herded, deceived and taken advantage of?

The "People's" Presidential Candidate? Maybe in some futuristic time or just in movies. Maybe then. Who knows. For now it just looks like it is the "people's" presidential candidate that won't be.
