THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD
7/31/2006
Distortions They Go!
By Carrie K. Hutchens An editorial appeared on the "Scripps Howard News Service" on July 19, 2006 that fits into the category of madness that has over-taken this world. It also fits in with the theory of distracting and making inflammatory comments that will incite the reader. Distortions of the truth and making what was, appear to be something other than what it was -- also seems to be at hand. That's a good start for the distracting and distorting supporters. The editorial starts out, "Congressional Republicans turned a private tragedy into a political circus last year when they intervened in the case of Terri Schiavo." Guess those Democratic persons that were involved just briefly switched party affiliation and became Republicans for the event. Or, maybe they became the invisible politicians and could only be seen by Republicans, Independents and zealots. I don't know, but they sure disappear and go missing in many of these types of editorials and articles. I'm betting a great many people who supported keeping Terri alive (or reviewing her case prior to finalization) will be surprised to find out they are "pro-life" much less "pro-life zealots". But then... terms such as "zealots", "religious fanatics" and "right wing fanatics" have often accompanied articles that defend the pulling of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. Couldn't just be regular people from all walks of life, politics and religious (or un-religious) backgrounds. Must be the fanatics that would dare fight to save the life of an innocent woman. Of course. And we wouldn't want to dare listen to one of those fanatics least we be classified as one as well. Heaven forbid. Ooops, I said the "heaven" word. The comment is made that Congress attempted to overturn an order regarding the removal of Terri's feeding tube. If we are talking about US Congress, I beg pardon. The effort was made to give an innocent woman the right to have her case reviewed prior to execution just like everyone else on death row. Why is that so hard to comprehend and accept and admit? If Michael and Greer were so right, why would there have been any objection to a review? I would think it should have been welcomed. Wouldn't it have put the questions to rest? As for the autopsy... It is a well-known fact that Terri was brain-damaged. Recovery, in the sense of no longer being brain-damaged, was not an expectation by the majority on either side. However, brain-damaged should not be equated with "brain dead" -- another term often wrongly utilized to (apparently) win over people to Michael and Greer's side of it all. The autopsy confirmed brain damage. It could not ascertain whether Terri Schiavo was or was not in a "persistent vegetative state". This was made clear by those who performed the autopsy, so are we now calling them liars as well? It is also unknown what damage (full extent) existed prior to and what was actually created by the starvation and dehydration event. Believe it or not, one's body parts actually shrivel up due to lack of the necessary hydration and nutrition. The brain is not somehow left unaffected. Well, it's not, unless it is Terri Schiavo's and being discussed by those who are defending her supposed "right to privacy". (Isn't that what the ACLU said it was all about when they stepped into the picture?) The ones who fought for, and defended, "a review" of Terri Schiavo's case, are trusting that the public will forget? Who says? Michael Schiavo doesn't want the voters to forget what happened? What makes him think anyone has? He has formed a political action committee? So?!? And we should be impressed because why? Any one of us could readily do that if we had a mind to, so why is it so special that he has? According to the North Country Gazette, "In May, Schiavo sent out an email claiming that his political action committee had received "tens of thousands of dollars from supporters literally from all across America and we've given thousands of dollars to progressive candidates". The commentary goes on to state, "Well, kind of. According to the report, from April 1 through June 30, Schiavo and Newton could count individual contributors to TerriPAC on one hand, three from Florida and two from California, with individual contributions totaling $1,800, hardly the success that Schiavo and Newton proclaim. Overall, during 2006, TerriPAC has received only $7,204 in individual contributions, significantly below the "tens of thousands" that Schiavo had claimed." Why isn't the mainstream media jumping on this information? Egg on the face worries? Avoidance! Avoid the truth and maybe it will go away? Keep telling the lies until they become embedded as truth? What has happened to the journalists of the past? The heroes that would come charging forth with the truth and save the day? What happened to those words of truth? Why are they now being distorted and lost and taken out of context to form a picture contrary to reality? What is the purpose of this madness and who is at the helm? Yes, still another editorial distorting the facts and twisting the motives appeared. What madness the world is facing, as we are constantly told the truth is a delusion and the falsehood is the reality. What madness as we are told murder is good and saving the innocent is evil. What madness to lie to our faces and expect us to distrust our knowledge and the truth we witnessed, because they say and say and say and say what it is they wish us to believe. Distracting. Making inflammatory comments to incite. Distorting the truth. All methods to lead the world to the madness of the distorter's reality. It's a trip of tricks and sliding hands that must be avoided, if the world is to regain its common sense, humanity and sanity. The world has indeed gone mad! I'm hoping it is a temporary phase because I sure do miss the common sense, humanity and sanity!
