US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon to Kick Off Sunday Night

WASHINGTON, April 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Evangelical leader Rev. Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), president of Faith and Action, will lead the opening ceremony for the 16th annual US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon this Sunday evening at 8:00. The Marathon is a 90-hour non-stop public reading of the Bible without interruption or commentary. It will be staged on the West Lawn of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, facing out to the sprawling Washington Mall. Rev. Schenck will lead a group of clergy and lay church leaders in anointing with oil the stage and podium as an act of holy consecration.

Hundreds of volunteer readers will take part during the four-day event. Members of Congress, other public officials, young and old, even tourists from other countries will be welcomed to the large Bible- shaped podium.

This year’s Bible Reading Marathon will be broadcast live in its entirety over the Internet on Faith and Action Live! The broadcast can be found at www.live365.com/stations/faalive .

Rev. Schenck stated, “The Marathon is the most important event that takes place at the Capitol each year. What is more effective than the simple reading of God’s Word without distraction? The Bible itself says ‘Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.’ This event inspires faith, and that’s the key to salvation for individuals and for whole nations.”
